Want to move

Moving options

Want to move?

There are different ways you can move and remain in social housing. A good starting point is to read our Moving Home leaflet.

Swapping with someone else

This is called a mutual exchange and is available to social housing tenants, subject to the agreement of their landlords. Please read our Mutual Exchange FAQs and see our Flowchart.

One way to find someone to swap with is through HomeSwapper. Find out more at HomeSwapper.

Moving via Choice Based Lettings

At one time you could ask your landlord to move you within its own housing stock.  This was called a transfer.

Westcountry now ask tenants who want to move either within Westcountry or to another housing association or council stock to register on either Devon Home Choice or Cornwall Homechoice according to where they live.

Downsizing to somewhere smaller

Please read Westcountry's Under-occupation policy statement on making the best use of our rented housing stock.

Freeing up adapted property

If you live in a property that has been adapted for someone with a disability; no longer need the adapted accommodation and would consider moving to free up the property for someone with a need, please contact the Moving Home team.
