You can have this web site read out loud to you if reading it is difficult.
We use Browsealoud software which can read web pages, PDF (Adobe Acrobat) files and Microsoft Word files that have been opened from web site on your PC or Mac computer.
You will need to download the Browsealoud software: click here to find full instructions to carry out the download and installation.
If you want to have your PDF files read, you will need to have Adobe Reader Version 6 or above-most newer PC will have this already.
Once you have installed Browsealoud you only need to highlight over the text that you want read to you, and a small menu will appear with the option to speech the selection. You can add different voices. You can also have a banner showing you the words in large text as they are read out.
Why are we doing this? Using Browsealoud, we are helping more of our customers and other site visitors get the information we have that they need. It is free for you to use.

Customising Browsealoud
Once the software has downloaded, a Browsealoud icon will be placed in your system tray which is at the bottom right hand corner of your screen (beside the system clock).
To change the options in browsealoud. please right click on this icon , choose 'open Browsealoud settings' from the menu and you can change your setting, as per examples below. The speech tab on the settings window enables you to choose a male or female voice, and change the speed, pitch and volume of the reader. You can choose to read just an individual sentence you have pointed at or the entire page from where your cursor points. Further options let you save speech selections or even whole documents as mp3 files for repeated listening.
