Buying Your Rented Home
Who has the Right to Buy?
Residents who have a secure tenancy have the Right to Buy. Mostly, this will apply to residents who have been tenants of the Association since February 1989. Some residents may have inherited this right as a consequence of carrying out a mutual exchange of tenancies
Assured and Shorthold tenants do not have the Right to Buy.
Secure tenants may only exercise their Right to Buy if the Court has not made a possession order against them.
You may be able to exercise the Right to buy jointly with members of your family who have lived with you for the past 12 months, or with someone who is a joint tenant with you.
