Community Development
Improve your Community
There are many ways that you can help to improve your local comunity. Funding is available through the Community Facility Grants, we are creating Neigbourhood Action Plans and have Play activities across our area.
Neighbourhood Action Plans
Westcountry is proud that we meet Decent homes Standards on our properties. However we recognise that good quality housing is not what makes homes and communities.
In order to work with residents on how best to support and sustain its neighbourhoods we are developing Neighbourhood action plans. These will enable us to plan and prioritise changes to estates working with residents, local authorities and other partners in the area for the benefit of all the community.
We are piloting the scheme on two estates within our area and will be measuring the improvements and outcomes for residents over the coming months.
In addition we will be working with our wider residents on how to identify the communities with the greatest need for support and intervention to further develop this project over all our estates.
Community Facilities Grants
The Community Facilities Grant is a fund that Westcountry sets aside so that any group of residents can apply for money.
Grants are for projects or amenities that will either strengthen communities directly through the facility provided such as social activities, support for gardening clubs, parenting classes etc or Strengthen communities indirectly through the act of talking about, consulting on, applying for and using the grant. For example, putting up bird boxes, purchasing garden benches and plants etc.
Grants are awarded by residents and can’t be used to fund anything that would be Westcountry’s responsibility to provide. If you would like an application form for a Community Facilities Grant please click here.
Play

Family activity sessions can take place in any neighbourhood throughout Westcountry’s area. We generally work with local play providers to run these events. We have also linked with the Forest School Network and other agencies.Residents can also organise their own activities, trips and fun days which are then funded by Westcountry.
