Anti Social Behaviour

Nuisance Reporting and Anti-Social Behaviour

Summary of Anti Social Behaviour Policy

Westcountry takes anti-social behaviour very seriously and following the introduction of our anti-social behaviour policy, the Association has successfully obtained several injunctions against those tenants who make life unacceptably unpleasant for their neighbours.

The following is an article from Coast to Coast residents newsletter in December 2006:

"Residents in Bronshill House have been granted peace and quiet after Westcountry’s staff took possession of a flat following a hearing at Torquay and Newton Abbot County Court.

Residents had suffered noise nuisance and anti-social behaviour caused by three tenants and their friends. Despite warnings, the tenants played loud music late at night, held regular parties and the police were often called to deal with fighting, swearing and drunkenness.  Housing officers worked with residents to keep records of the nuisance and share information with the police.

The conditions of an injunction prohibiting nuisance and intimidation were broken and led to possession.

Westcountry will not tolerate persistent breaches of tenancy caused by nuisance and anti-social behaviour and will take legal action for possession where necessary.

We work hard to ensure that Westcountry residents and service users are allowed to enjoy a good home and local community."

Anti-Social Behaviour Policy

Westcountry Housing Association believes that everyone has a right to live in a home and neighbourhood free from excessive noise, vandalism, harassment and fear of crime.

The aim of the policy is therefore to prevent, tackle and eradicate anti-social behaviour.

Please contact your Housing Officer if you are suffering from from anti-social behaviour and they will investigate the matter.

You can either telephone our offices or write to us to make a complaint.

Anti-Social Behaviour is conduct which:
"Is capable of causing nuisance or annoyance to any person directly or indirectly and which relates to or affects Westcountry Housing Association's housing management functions" and/or "Consists of or involves using threatening to use housing accommodation owned or managed by Westcountry Housing Association for an unlawful purpose"
In determining whether a particular behaviour constitutes anti-social behaviour the deciding factor will be the impact of the behaviour on others.
